Five cars account for a large share of Delhi's used car market. Cars24 data reported by Team-BHP puts the Maruti Suzuki Swift at the top with 5.6% of used cars sold in Delhi, followed by the Wagon R at 5.1%, the Honda City at 4.6%, the Hyundai i10 at 4.5% and the Swift Dzire at 3.4%. Popularity has an upside: parts are easy to find and the car is easy to sell later. It also means plenty of tired, high-mileage examples on the market. If you are shopping for used cars in Delhi, here is what to check on each.
What the Data Says About Delhi Buyers
The same data shows two wider trends. CNG makes up 17.3% of used cars sold in Delhi, a share the report links to the city's age limits on diesel cars. Automatics make up 13.7%; manuals still dominate, but the gap is narrowing. Both trends matter for these five, because each is available with an automatic gearbox, and all except the City with factory CNG.
1. Maruti Suzuki Swift
The Swift is popular for its low running costs and easy resale. Because so many are on the road, condition varies widely between cars of the same year, so look for signs of accident repair: uneven panel gaps, mismatched paint and replaced headlamps. If it is an AMT (AGS) version, check that gear changes are consistent and the car does not hesitate when pulling away.
Maruti Suzuki stopped making diesel engines when BS-VI arrived in April 2020, so any diesel Swift is a BS-IV car built before then. Factor in Delhi's age limit and the GRAP rules for BS-IV cars. Our used Swift buying guide covers versions and prices.
2. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
The Wagon R's tall body, easy entry and factory CNG option make it a favourite for city driving. Many used Wagon Rs run on CNG, so make the CNG checks: the RC must show CNG, and the cylinder needs a hydro-test every three years. Our used CNG car checks explain both. On AMT versions, test the gearbox in slow traffic, and on any Wagon R, check the clutch, which takes a beating in stop-start city driving.
Our Wagon R buying guide has more on versions and pricing.
3. Honda City
The City is the only sedan in Delhi's top five, valued for its space and refinement. Petrol automatics use a CVT, which should pull smoothly without judder or jerks on the test drive. If it is a diesel, check whether it is BS-IV or BS-VI, because that decides how it fares under GRAP and Delhi's age limit. On hybrid (e:HEV) versions, ask about the hybrid battery and its warranty.
Our used Honda City guide goes deeper, and you can browse used Honda cars.
4. Hyundai i10
"i10" on a listing can mean three different cars: the original i10, the Grand i10 or the Grand i10 Nios. They differ in size, features and age, so confirm which one you are looking at before you compare prices. Many original i10s are now more than ten years old, so check the registration date against Delhi's 15-year limit for petrol cars.
The Grand i10 Nios is available with factory CNG and an AMT, so run the CNG and gearbox checks where they apply. You can browse used Hyundai cars to compare generations side by side.
5. Maruti Suzuki Dzire
The Dzire is a popular taxi, sold to fleets as the Dzire Tour, so many used Dzires have done commercial work. Check the vehicle class on the RC using Hooter's RC details check, and ask directly whether the car was ever a cab. Warning signs include very high kilometres, worn rear seats and door handles, marks left by removed stickers and a fitted speed limiter. A former taxi is not always a bad buy, but it should be priced as one.
Like the Swift, any diesel Dzire was built before April 2020 and is BS-IV.
How to Use Popularity to Your Advantage
Popular cars give you choice. With many listings for each model, you can walk away from a car with gaps in its records and find another. Compare at least three examples of the same model and year, check the service history, and match the kilometres using our guide to spotting odometer fraud. Use the spread of asking prices to negotiate.
A Checklist for Delhi's Top Five
Confirm exactly which model and generation you are viewing. Check the BS norm on any diesel. Run the CNG checks on CNG cars and test the gearbox on automatics. Ask whether the car was ever a taxi, especially a Dzire. Match the service history with the odometer. Compare at least three similar cars before you agree a price.
When you are ready, browse used Maruti Suzuki cars or used cars under ₹5 lakh and ask each seller for the service record before you visit. Undecided on a gearbox? Read our guide to manual vs automatic used cars.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the most-bought used cars in Delhi?
According to Cars24 data reported by Team-BHP in October 2026: the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Wagon R, Honda City, Hyundai i10 and Swift Dzire.
Is a diesel Swift or Dzire a good used buy in Delhi?
Only at the right price. Maruti stopped diesel engines in April 2020, so these cars are BS-IV, face GRAP Stage III curbs and have limited time under Delhi's age rules.
How can I tell if a used Dzire was a taxi?
Check the vehicle class on the RC, ask the seller, and look for very high kilometres, worn rear seats, sticker marks and a speed limiter.
Which used Hyundai i10 should I buy?
It depends on budget. The Grand i10 Nios is the newest, the Grand i10 sits in the middle and the original i10 is the oldest. Confirm which one is listed.
Are CNG versions of these cars worth buying?
Often, for city driving, provided the RC shows CNG, the cylinder's hydro-test is current and the kit is covered by the insurance.
