Mercedes-Benz India has launched the long-awaited G 450d into the Indian market for a price of ₹2.90 crore (ex-showroom). With this addition, the G-Class range gets a significant extension of the flexibility of diesel power into the Indian luxury off-roading space.
Performance & Engineering
Underpinning the G 450d is a 3.0-litre inline-six diesel engine and a 48V mild-hybrid system. The powertrain develops approximately 362 bhp and 750 Nm of torque, both of which can be further boosted by an additional 20 bhp via the mild-hybrid assistance. The SUV can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and have a top speed of 210 km/h.
In true G-Class tradition of being a thoroughbred off-roader, the G 450d possesses the marque's iconic features such as three mechanical differential locks, ladder-frame chassis, good suspension geometry, 241 mm of ground clearance, and water-wading capability of up to 700 mm.
Interior & Technology
Moving inside short of the G 450d, you have a fully integrated and luxurious experience. Twin 12.3-inch displays provide the instruments and infotainment combined through the latest MBUX NTG7 interface providing the latest display of technology in the luxury space. Nappa leather upholstery and ambient lighting with custom colour elements, combined with a Burmester 3D surround sound system with playback capabilities of Dolby Atmos.
In terms of safety, the G 450d features Level 2 driver assistance systems such as active brake assist, lane-keeping assist, and a 360° camera system.
Pricing, Availability & Strategy
The G 450d is made available at the start price of ₹2.90 crore (ex-showroom), and is being distributed to select customers during an initial limited release of 50 units. Mercedes-Benz India continues to highlight that this new diesel variant enhances its strategy for reaching a wider array of luxury SUV buyers in India.
