Market introduction
McLaren launched the 720S in the country on 9 June 2021.
Variants
It is available in two body styles - the 720S Coupé and the 720S Spider.
Engine and Transmission
Both the 720S automobiles are powered by an M840T 3,994cc twin-turbocharged V8 petrol mill married to a seven-speed automatic transmission. This mid-mounted mill develops an exhilarating 710bhp and 770Nm of torque. All that power propels the 720S twins from 0 to 100kmph in a staggering 2.9 seconds and has a phenomenal top speed of 341kmph.
Exterior
The 720S is a masterpiece of impeccable aerodynamic design, and that makes it a space-age supercar. This two-door automobile is very low slung due to its always-on race character. The 720S twins utilise McLaren's signature carbon fibre monocoque tub called “Monocage II and Monocage II-S” which is as light as a feather. Moreover, the triangular-shaped headlamp unit doubles up as air inlets. The air swiftly travels via a sophisticated air bridge created inside the body to ultimately cool the V8 mill. At the back, there is a power-assisted spoiler that not only increases downforce but also acts as an air brake to provide additional stopping force.
Interior
McLaren is well-known for making superior driver-focused sports cars and therefore do not have any luxury features or an opulent interior for that matter. And the 720S lineup ardently follows this deep philosophy. The 720S Spider features a retractable hardtop and being a driver-oriented car, it does not have large screens or a plethora of switches inside. However, there is a portrait-shaped infotainment screen with navigation and also a unique digital instrument cluster. McLaren offers full leather or Alcantara upholstered sports seats in the car.
Features
The McLaren automobiles are about driving and hence they are equipped with performance-oriented features such as foldable driver display, static adaptive headlights, variable drift control, McLaren track telemetry and carbon-ceramic brakes with aluminium callipers.
Seating capacity
The 720S Coupé and Spider can accommodate two passengers, including the driver.
Colours
The twins are offered in six standard paint choices. However, there are a plethora of shades available in McLaren’s colour palette.
Rivals
The 720S Coupé takes on legends such as the Ferrari F8 Tributo and Lamborghini Huracán Evo RWD. On the other hand, the 720S Spider competes against the Lamborghini Huracán Evo Spyder RWD and Ferrari F8 Spider.
