Luxury brand Mercedes-Benz introduced the all-electric VLE van on Tuesday. This new model stems from the Vision V concept and will be positioned below the more luxurious VLS, which is expected to launch later this year.
Buyers can choose from both standard and long-wheelbase versions, as well as AMG Line, AMG Line Plus, and Exclusive trims. The VLE EV is the first vehicle built on the new VAN.EA platform. Combustion models based on the VAN.CA platform will arrive later. The van can seat up to eight passengers, and the seating can be configured in various ways. The rear seats can be removed entirely, offering up to 4,078 liters of cargo space.
Mercedes VLE Range and Battery Options
A 115kWh and an 80kWh unit will be available later. The VLE will be the first model using the VAN.EA platform, which will also support Mercedes' future electric MPVs, including the VLS. The first variant is the VLE 300, which delivers 276 horsepower and claims a range of over 700 kilometers (WLTP).
It features a large 115kWh NMC battery and operates on an 800V electrical architecture, allowing for a 320-kilometer charge in just 15 minutes. The more powerful VLE 400 will come with all-wheel drive, 415 horsepower, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 6.5 seconds. Later models will include smaller 80kWh lithium-iron-phosphate batteries, and combustion models based on the VAN.CA platform will join the lineup in the future.
The van also includes air suspension and rear-axle steering, offering up to seven degrees of movement. This feature helps achieve a turning circle of 10.9 meters, comparable to the CLA sedan.
Mercedes VLE Exterior Highlights
On the outside, the Mercedes-Benz VLE showcases a sleek, aerodynamic design with a drag coefficient of 0.25Cd, the same as the Porsche Macan Turbo Electric. The van has a long front overhang, a smooth roofline, and a rounded rear, giving it a streamlined appearance.

At the front, the large grille can be fitted with an illuminated frame depending on the variant. A light strip connects the headlights, and the DRLs feature star-shaped elements. Buyers can choose between a traditional standing three-pointed star on the bonnet or a centrally mounted emblem on the grille. The van also features electric sliding doors on both sides, which include power windows, and wheels ranging from 19 to 22 inches.
At the rear, a full-width light strip runs across the tailgate, forming an inverted U shape and housing all lighting functions. The VLE maintains some practical features from the Mercedes V-Class, such as independently opening rear glass.
Mercedes VLE Interior and Features
The VLE can accommodate between five and eight occupants, depending on the configuration. The rear seats can be completely removed to create up to 4,078 liters of luggage space. Notably, the seats are equipped with rollers, making them easier to move when removed.
Mercedes offers three types of rear seats: a manually adjustable Comfort Seat, an electrically adjustable Premium Comfort Seat, and a top-spec Grand Comfort Seat. The latter includes a pillow, wireless charger, lumbar support, and massage function. Rear passengers can also have folding tables for added convenience. Alternatively, buyers may choose three-seat benches in the back, featuring either manual or electrical adjustments.
A large 31.3-inch 8K retractable display folds into the roof liner when not in use. The dashboard features the Superscreen, which combines a 10.25-inch driver display, a 14-inch touchscreen, and a 14-inch passenger screen across the cabin.

The VLE supports over-the-air updates and features a 750-watt, 22-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system, along with a panoramic glass roof. The center console includes a compartment that can keep drinks warm or cold and offers UV disinfection. The electric seats can be adjusted using the touchscreen or a smartphone app. For safety and driver assistance, the VLE is equipped with 10 cameras, five radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors.
Mercedes VLE Launch in India
No timeline has been provided. Currently, it is unclear if the Mercedes-Benz VLE will be available in India; the company recently launched the V-Class there. Mercedes is increasingly focusing on the high-end luxury market, referred to as Top-End Vehicles (TEVs).
The company mentioned that the TEV segment grew by about 11 percent in 2025, with roughly one in every four cars sold falling into this category. Given this focus and the rising demand in the luxury MPV segment, models like the VLE and the upcoming VLS could fit well into the lineup if they are eventually offered in the country.
