What is Flex Fuel?
Flex fuel, also known as flexible fuel, is a type of vehicle engine that can run on multiple fuel types, typically a blend of gasoline and ethanol or methanol. The most common type of flex fuel vehicle (FFV) can use up to 85% ethanol (E85) and the remainder being gasoline.
This technology offers several benefits, including environmental advantages as ethanol and methanol have lower carbon emissions compared to traditional gasoline. It also provides economic benefits, by supporting local agriculture and reducing reliance on non-renewable fuels.
Hyundai Creta Flex fuel

Hyundai launched its new Creta Flex Fuel at the Auto Expo 2025, and that marked its effort towards sustainable mobility. The Innovative SUV features a three-cylinder engine of 1.0 liters, generating 118 bhp and 172 Nm of torque. Coupled with a six-speed smooth automatic transmission, this variant of Creta is capable of running on various blends of fuel, the maximum of E100 being pure ethanol. That just adds to the versatility of the Creta, and this would enhance its lineup to meet the different consumer needs while driving towards greener solutions.
Tata Punch Flex fuel

At Auto Expo 2025, Tata Motors launched the Tata Punch Flex-Fuel, another step toward sustainable mobility. The compact SUV will run on a combination of petrol and up to 100 percent ethanol, providing a greener alternative for consumers in response to becoming environmentally conscious drivers. Under the bonnet, the Punch Flex-Fuel uses a 1.2-litre three-cylinder producing 86 bhp and 113 Nm of torque, mated with a five-speed manual or an optional automatic transmission. It offers a sleek design along with spacious interiors and the features of advanced safety, bringing into Tata cars performance along with practicality. This showcase will strengthen Tata's commitment to innovation in the automotive sector while meeting the growing demand for flex-fuel options.
Mahindra XUV3XO flex fuel

Mahindra unveiled the flex-fuel variant of XUV3XO at the Auto Expo 2025, underlining its commitment to innovation and sustainability. Powered by a brawny 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine, which churns out 115 bhp and 230 Nm of torque, the model is spirited in the compact SUV segment. This XUV3XO flex-fuel runs from a mix of gasoline and ethanol up to E100 to achieve lower emissions and more fuel efficiency. Besides that, it is made with a smooth six-speed automatic transmission and includes some of the most advanced safety and connectivity options available for a truly modern and enjoyable driving experience. As part of Mahindra's initiative for a greener tomorrow, this flex-fuel variant will be provided to consumers without any compromise on performance or comfort.
