BMW Cars set to get expensive in India From April 1 2026

Owning a luxury vehicle in India is set to become more expensive starting next month. BMW Group India has joined rivals Mercedes-Benz and Audi in announcing a price revision of up to 2% across its entire model range, effective April 1, 2026.

The price hike covers the full spectrum of the BMW and MINI portfolios, including locally produced sedans and SUVs, as well as Completely Built-up Units (CBU). The adjustment applies to all powertrain variants, encompassing Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) models, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric vehicles (EVs).

Driven by Economic Pressures

According to a statement from BMW Group India President and CEO Hardeep Singh Brar, the decision was necessitated by a combination of escalating costs.

"To offset escalating logistics and material costs alongside a depreciating rupee, we are implementing a price adjustment of up to 2% across our range," Brar stated.

The company emphasised that the "recalibration" is essential to maintaining its standards of innovation and world-class service as it navigates a volatile economic landscape.

A Wider Industry Trend

The move by BMW reflects a broader trend within the Indian luxury automotive sector. Most major European manufacturers are grappling with similar headwinds, specifically the depreciation of the Indian Rupee against the Euro, which significantly inflates the cost of imported components and kits.

  • Mercedes-Benz India: Has confirmed a 2% increase starting April 1. This marks the brand's second price hike in 2026, following a similar revision in January.
  • Audi India: Will also implement a hike of up to 2% across its range, citing rising input costs and currency fluctuations as the primary drivers.

Impact on Buyers

For prospective buyers, the window to purchase at current ex-showroom prices is closing. For a high-end SUV or luxury sedan, a 2% increase can translate to an additional outflow of ₹1.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh, depending on the model and trim.

Industry analysts suggest that while demand in the luxury segment remains record-breaking—BMW recently reported its best-ever annual sales in 2025—frequent price corrections may eventually test the resilience of entry-level luxury buyers.
