The Volkswagen Taigun is preparing for its first major update since its Indian debut in 2021. Recently, a near-production test mule was spotted testing on Indian roads with minimal camouflage, giving us a clear look at the aesthetic changes planned for the mid-2026 launch. Interestingly, the spotted vehicle was a left-hand-drive (LHD) model—typically exported as the T-Cross to markets like Mexico—but the styling is expected to be nearly identical to the India-spec SUV.
Exterior Styling: Inspired by the Tiguan
The most noticeable changes are at the front, where the Taigun borrows design cues from its larger siblings, the Tiguan and Tayron. The facelift focuses on a more modern, high-tech lighting signature and a cleaner bumper design.
- Illuminated Face: A new LED light bar now connects the sleek headlights, featuring a glowing VW logo at the center.
- Revised Grille: The front end sports a refreshed grille with dual chrome strips, though the traditional fog lamps appear to have been removed in favor of a cleaner look.
- Rear Updates: At the back, the connected LED tail-lights feature updated internal graphics. The rear bumper is now fully blacked out and accented with a new chrome strip and reflectors.
- Side Profile: The silhouette remains familiar, but expect a fresh set of alloy wheel designs to accompany the silver roof rails and body-colored mirrors.

Interior and Feature Upgrades
While the cabin hasn't been fully photographed yet, industry expectations suggest it will follow the lead of the Skoda Kushaq facelift. Volkswagen aims to modernize the interior to keep pace with newer rivals like the Kia Seltos and the upcoming Tata Sierra.
- Dual Screens: A 10.2-inch infotainment system paired with a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display.
- Premium Comforts: Potential for powered and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a wireless phone charger.
- Rear Comfort: There is speculation that VW might include the massaging rear seats recently introduced in the Kushaq, which would be a first for this segment.
Powertrain: A New Automatic Transmission
The 2026 Taigun will likely retain its current turbocharged petrol engines, but it will benefit from a significant mechanical update to its entry-level automatic gearbox to improve driveability and efficiency.

- 1.0-Litre TSI (115hp): This engine will now be paired with a new 8-speed torque converter automatic (replacing the old 6-speed) or a 6-speed manual.
- 1.5-Litre TSI (150hp): The more powerful engine will continue to be offered exclusively with the 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch transmission).
When it launches in mid-2026, the Taigun facelift is expected to command a slight premium over the current price range of ₹10.58 lakh to ₹19.19 lakh. It will continue to compete in the crowded midsize SUV segment against the Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, and the Renault Duster.
