OLA

The popular ride-sharing and electric scooter firm, Ola, officially announced its plans to enter the electric car market in June 2022. Going forward, the brand has released a couple of teaser photos of the electric saloon concept. At a recent Ola Customer Day event in Bangalore, Bhavish Aggarwal, CEO, Ola Electric, also hinted at the probable concept electric car unveiling slated for 15 August, 2022.

Ola, the Indian multinational ride-sharing giant, was established in Mumbai, Maharashtra, in December 2010 by two Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai graduates, Bhavish Aggarwal and Ankit Bhati. The company name draws its inspiration from the Spanish word ‘hola’, which is used as a greeting, similar to ‘hello’ in English. The Ola headquarters are located in Bangalore, Karnataka.

After its successful innings in ride-sharing, Ola started a new entity, called OLA Electric in Bangalore, Karnataka, in May 2017. In 2020, Ola Electric announced its plan to introduce new electric scooters in India along with the announcement to build a manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. It launched the first electric scooter, the S1, in the country in August last year, which is available in two variants, the S1 and S1 Pro.

Ola also operates in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom as a ride-sharing company. And it further plans to expand its business to other countries in the coming years.
